Raleigh developer weighs 5-story options for Hillsborough property

For the last eight years, Raleigh developer CityPlat has been assembling a site on Hillsborough Street and trying to get it rezoned for a future development. Last week, the company finally got what it was looking for – sort of.

On April 5, the City Council approved a request to rezone an assemblage at the corner of Hillsborough Street and Bagwell Avenue, clearing the way for five stories of development.

The result was something of a compromise. CityPlat had originally asked the city for seven stories, but that was met with resistance from neighbors concerned over potential impacts to their properties. So the company scaled down the request to five stories.

The assemblage is made up of five parcels totaling more than an acre at 2808 and 2812 Hillsborough St. and 6, 8 and 10 Bagwell Ave.

CityPlat had hoped to bring a boutique hotel to the site. But now it looks like that won’t happen.
